On Time For Once

Okay so I am actually posting on the proper day!  Aren't you proud of me?

So I am writing while watching Once Upon A Time.  I kinda like this show too.  I know, I know, I am a big sap!

I want to thank all of you who had encouraging words for me today!  It means a lot!  I appreciate the support and the readership.  I hope you are getting something out of this I know I am.

So yes, I had a bad weekend. But I am not discouraged, just more encouraged.  I learned that I need to plan better.  That really is the key.  Planning.  I have my meals mapped out for the week, so the menu may get a little boring, especially lunch.

The other thing I learned, this was a while ago, but it is the key to losing weight.  Its calories in vs. calories out.  I do my counts at www.loseit.com.  If you know who I am, feel free to be my friend on their, we can keep each other accountable.  I am truly doing this for myself, but if others want to join in, all the better!

The other thing I have learned is that dieting doesn't work!  Its a short term fix until you get bored or disinterested and go back to old habits.  Its really about a lifestyle change.  So that's where I am.  In the past, I have fallen into traps.  While in school, it was easier to go through a fast food drive through than go to Wawa and get carrots and celery.  I must stop that.  When I need a snack at work, I need to stay away from the vending machine, and get a salad or pack a snack.  This is not a diet, its a change.

So I will eat what I want, because I will want the healthier choice!  I will also have a "bad" weekend and be okay with it.  It happens.  Its life.  It just can't happen every day!

Onto the job front.  More good news, I got two rejection letters!  But instead of them telling me to piss off, they said make sure to contact them in a couple of months.  Hey its something.  Also, I applied for a job in the US District Court.  That would be a great job.  Hopefully I get an interview.  I also had some good feedback from the hiring partner at Piper.  So we will see where that goes...

Okay so the menu for the day.

Breakfast - 408 Calories, Frosted Mini-Wheats, V-8, Fat Free Skim Milk, Coffee
Lunch - 691 Calories, Chicken Salad Sandwich on Multi-Grain Bread, Fruit Salad, Dark Chocolate Cake, Half of a Deviled Egg, and a Diet Dr. Pepper (I know KL stay away from the soda)
Dinner - 474 Calories, Wegmans Mojo Chicken, Seeds of Change Quinoa & Whole Grain Brown Rice, Steamed Green Beans
Dessert - Two cookies and coffee...not sure the calorie count

So total was 1573 + dessert

Exercise - P90X CardioX, just keep pressing play, cause this is kicking my butt!

Once again, if you have suggestions please let me know.

The Walking Dead

We now take a break from my diet and exercise and job hunt to discuss my favorite TV show for the moment: The Walking Dead.

Lost was my favorite show for years.  Since it started, even more so since its been off the air, I have tried to find a replacement.  Enter The Walking Dead.

What I loved about Lost was the mythology, the supernatural, but most importantly the characters.  Lost was about those people on the island.  It was fun and smart.  I never knew where it was going to go, and although I would have liked something more out of the ending, I was one of the people that didn't hate it.  It made sense.  Lost was about those with faith and those finding faith.  Faith in God, faith in humanity, faith in each other.

The Walking Dead is similar in that way.  If you haven't watched the show its a post apocolyptic world where zombies are running wild.  We are following the stories of a group of people, thrown together by fate who are trying to understand what has happened and how to survive.  Racial barriers are broken, yet still exist, friendships grow and are redefined, and faith is a central plot point.

Season One of The Walking Dead was a fast paced emotional joy ride, which left me watching the TV in awe.  The special effects alone are movie quality, but again the story became about the characters.  Rick, our hero for now, is a cop.  He was shot and was in a coma.  He wakes up to this zombie infested world.  How and why is still unclear as we are nearly halfway through season 2.  The first half of season 1, which is only 6 episodes, finds Rick searching for his family.  I don't want to give too much away for those that want to watch, but Rick finds his family and that sets the stage for the rest of the story.  The dynamic between Shane (Rick's police partner) and Rick is still slowly developing, but I am very curious to see where it goes.

Season Two has drug on at a slower pace, which I like, yet I wish would pick up a bit.  I think I know where it is all leading, but I wish they would move a bit faster and that we could get a bit more background of what is happening in the world.

My suggestion to all of you, watch this show!  Its great!  Season One is streaming on Netflix and Season Two is On-Demand.

If people want, I would be happy to give a recap and my thoughts of each episode. I don't want to spoil anything for those of you that want to catch up.

Long Weekend

Sorry that I haven't updated in a few days.  My first weekend was sort of a disaster.  I must and will get better.

First, I would like to congratulate AP and RP for their nuptuials over the weekend.  AP you married a beautiful, smart and charming woman.  Thank you letting us be a part of your day.  RP, well, I guess you know what you got!  Love ya both!

So on the job front, things are looking up!  I have an interview with a firm in Harrisburg on Wednesday.  After the interview there will be a mixer with some Widener Alums.  Plus I get to see CKS, with whom I had to cancel with on Friday.  Then on Thursday, I get to drive back to Uniontown for an interview on Friday.

So for food.

Friday breakfast = Frosted Mini Wheats, fat free skim milk, V8 and coffee (you will see a pattern here)
Friday Lunch - Salad with chicken and fat free honey mustard dressing
Friday Dinner - Took Ash out for burgers and fries (BAD I know)

Saturday Breakfast - None
Saturday Lunch - Grilled chicken sandwich, fruit salad
Saturday Dinner - Baked Sea Bass, green beans, carrots, wedding cake AND WAY TOO MANY ADULT BEVERAGES!

Sunday Breakfast - Sausage Egg and Cheese sandwich
Sunday Lunch - Half an italian hogie (4 inches, no oil or mayo)
Sunday Dinner - BAD Kielbasa and pieroghis, but it was Steelers football day!

I worked out on Saturday morning. P90X shoulders and Arms and Cardio X.  I did not work out yesterday.  I'm too old to drink.....

This week will be better!  It must be better!

I am concerned about the weigh in this week.  I hope to have lost 2 pounds, but I may have gained....

Day 2

Sorry for the delay in getting the post out.  This will be a short update.  I will write more later tonight.

I did okay on food yesterday, in fact, I forgot to eat enough.  Oh well.  I really need to learn to pay attention to what I am doing throughout the day.  I know overeating can be awful, but under eating can be just as bad.

On a positive note, I do have an interview in Harrisburg on Wednesday.  Can't wait!  Plus I get to see CS which is awesome!

So here is the food for yesterday.

Breakfast.  Well I didn't have breakfast.  KL don't yell at me!

Lunch. Giant salad with mixed greens, broccoli, carrots, red and green peppers, tomatoes, onions, a little bit of cheese and some of those crunchy asian noodles, chicken and a little bit of lite ranch.

Dinner. Pumpkin ravioli.

I did the P90X Cardio X yesterday.  I am very sore from Wednesday.

I will write more later and attempt to be a bit more organized and witty.

Thanks for reading!

Day 1, So it Begins

So this is my first attempt at a blog.  So welcome to 1-40-108!

A little about myself:

My name is W.  I am a 34 year old.  As you may have noticed from my profile picture, I am an out of shape, smoker who graduated from law school and passed the bar, but has no job.  In the next 108 days, I will be working as an attorney, will have lost 40 pounds, and quit smoking!  That's why I am here to have you keep me accountable.  I hope those that read this find inspiration, suggestions, and who knows what else.  I apologize in advance if I am boring, but I hope to get better.

I promise to be honest and post every day, maybe even more than once.  I will put my meals online along with workouts.  I will also post my weights every Wed.  Why Wednesday?  Well that's when I started.  In addition, I will let you know if I find a job and how that is going.  Here we go.

Today's weight. 243

  1. Breakfast
    1. Wawa breakfast burrito 610 Calories
  2. Lunch

On the job front, I applied to a job in freaking Romania!  Also at a few DA's offices and a couple of firms around Pennsylvania.  I will probably send resumes to a few more places before bed.

Please let me know what you like and what can be improved.  I look forward to hearing from you!
